Why Is This Program Important?
The current Canadian Clinical Practice Guidelines for the management of diabetes recommend that self-monitoring of blood glucose be:
Essential for:
- all people with type 1 diabetes
- all pregnant women with pre- existing diabetes or gestational diabetes
- all insulin treated people with type 2 diabetes
Recommended for:
- The majority of people with type 2 Diabetes treated with oral hypoglycemic agents
- Self- monitoring of blood glucose may also be useful for people with type 2 diabetes controlled by diet therapy alone.
